With all the long term planning and big infrastructures I’ve been making for the past two months, you know what I haven’t done in a while? published a game.
So I decided to take part in the Experimental Gameplay Project (thank you qubodup for bringing them to my attention), and make a game in 7 days (about the February topic – “Infinite World”). The result – The Overseer, a game where you help your robot move through an infinite corridor by controlling the way the world is generated. More details here, and here’s a little demonstration:
Unfortunately, I didn’t plan well enough for the 7 day schedule, so the gameplay is not very good. I guess it’s more of a demonstration of an idea than an actual game.
One thing to note is that I wanted to include music for the first time in a game. You may already know that I’m interested in automatic music generation, but for now I’m still not very good at it. So I decided to go with the “experimental” way, and do live recording of some improvising on the guitar. I guess my recording equipment / skills are not very good, because the quality is quite poor, but I think it’s better than no music.
The game is, of course, free software, released under the simplified BSD license.
Well, I’m interested pretty much in automatic generation of anything.
