A little update to the IP-based multiplayer issue: I recently got a demo of Europa Universalis IV and bought Europa Universalis III. The games are nice, but what I was really happy about – the multiplayer mode there is completely peer-to-peer, connecting to each other via IP address. Europa Universalis IV was released in 2013 – so take that, everyone who told me it not a practical mechanism any more.
The games, by the way, are kind of nice, though extremely slow paced, but I would say – if I were the minister of education of any country in the world, I’d put this game in the curriculum right now. One week of playing this would give you more than a year of history class in highschool.
